The 3rd Edition of F&G is 184 pages and features a cover quote by Eisner Award-winning artist Michael Allred. Most of the Neil Gaiman appearances have been edited out, and extra material has been added to the resources section. There's always room for improvement and sometimes it's necessary.
Editor Shelly Bond has been throwing red ink at comic book writers, pencillers, inkers, letterers, colorists, and cover artists for over three decades. FILTH & GRAMMAR: THE COMIC BOOK EDITOR'S (SECRET) HANDBOOK is Shelly's magnum opus, an unprecedented, step-by-step guide to making comic books from cover to cover. Chock-full of pro-tips from a dozen of your favorite creators including Grant Morrison, and Jill Thompson, F&G features the art talents of Mark Buckingham (FABLES) and newcomers Imogen Mangle and Laura Hole. Expanded front cover by Philip Bond. Back cover by Imogen Mangle. Blood, sweat, and red ink not included.
FAST TIMES IN COMIC BOOK EDITING is a graphic memoir that exposes my part in the '90s VERTIGO Comics Revolution. I was an editorial ingenue working my way up the corporate ladder at DC Comics editing THE SANDMAN, THE INVISIBLES, Paul Pope's HEAVY LIQUID and other seminal titles at an exciting cultural precipice. In a two year period, the death of Superman, the rise of creator-owned comics via Image, Milestone Media, and Karen Berger's VERTIGO imprint forever changed the face of pop culture.
Told through a series of short comics, photo montage timelines, and experimental art, FAST TIMES is also a love letter to New York City in the '90s. I gave my sweat and service to making comics by day, but weekends were devoted to urban exploration in the Lower East Side. I'd end up at St. Mark's Comics on Saturday nights at midnight to go through the racks and dusty stacks in search of new artists and writers who could help me change the world—one comic book panel at a time.
i-DOPPELGäNGER: Portrait of the Comic Book Editor in the 21st Centuryis the final volume in Shelly Bond's graphic memoir trilogy and features art by Imogen Mangle and ArtbyLid. Disco2000 brings great change to DC Comics/Vertigo in both digital production and upper management. Bond shares secret histories of the hits including FABLES, iZOMBIE, and BODIES, the latter two which became successful tv series, as well MINX, the first graphic novel line for teenage girls, and YOUNG ANIMAL, Gerard Way's pop-up comics imprint. Corporate layoffs forced Bond out of Vertigo in 2016 after 22 years of service, but lead to more innovative ventures in both the creation of BLACK CROWN and OFFREGISTER.PRESS, the comics & design lab she runs with her husband, British artist Philip Bond.
