A noisy multitude!! Moondew Pillow Box (2026) is an art book full-color offset printed on paper and vellum, and hand-bound with embroidery thread.
28 pages, 6.5 x 8.5 inches, numbered edition of 200.
"Chinese Chungongtu (春宮圖) and Japanese Shunga (春画) are traditional erotic art genres from China and Japan which were popular and widespread until European imperialist expansion of the early 1800s. The existence of these genres indicates a prosperous past in which sexuality was considered to be a normal part of a holistic life. Re-working specific historical artworks to queer and update them, this series pays homage to (and honors) the past while considering what was lost and not regained.
The visual style of Moondew Pillow Box features an expanded approach to speech bubbles and a mix of mark-making and digital processes including scanned colored pencil and ink figures, oil pastel backgrounds, and hand-written text, which are digitally collaged and printed into book form. Each spread also includes a section of woodblock print drawn from the original source image that is altered and woven into my adaption."
