NOTE: this book is in FRENCH

Locked away in the humid atmosphere of his apartment, a naked man slumps in front of his television. Trash bags litter the floor, objects pile up, and the space shrinks. Alone on his island of waste, the man seems cut off from the world for an eternity. But then one morning, he disappears for good... A few weeks later, a cleaning team is dispatched to empty the premises. Among the workers, Adel, is on his first day at the company. Very quickly, the young man can't help but wonder about the reasons that drove the last tenant to such isolation. A reckless curiosity that leads him to dangerously identify with the mysterious occupant. In this graphic novel, Jérôme Dubois explores the hikikomori phenomenon, a psychological condition that pushes some people to live cloistered in their rooms for months, even years. This starting point serves as a foundation for questioning our relationship with invisible presences and the memory of places. The book's color scheme, composed of red, green, and blue, accentuates this interplay between interior and exterior space, evoking a view of the world that only appears through screens. The overall effect is an atmosphere as luminous as it is heavy, almost unreal, like the ghost through whose eyes we follow part of the story. With "Immatériel," Jérôme Dubois has created a sumptuous and metaphysical work, successfully achieving the daring challenge of putting images and words to the invisible. NOTE: This book is an official selection of the 2025 Angoulême Festival.
