Luisa, whose family has a history of palm-reading in the circus in Brazil, doesn’t believe the increasing hype around “palmistry” (or “handistry” depending on who you ask). It gets so bad her students are getting hand surgery, and her friendships are strained as Luisa falls deeper and deeper into a maelstrom of racist assumptions, online conspiracies, and a potential murder!

Cris’ slice-of-life style—to the point of placing her characters directly into actual places in Milwaukee—is engaging and fun to read! More a portrait of Luisa, her family’s past, and her present-day friends than a plot-driven mystery, May You Get What You Want is a great story to really dig into.
